Abstract:
One of the biggest environmental impacts of climate change is drought. When uncontrolled population growth and urbanization are added, drought causes serious problems. In recent years, Türkiye has also been affected by this problem. Drought in recent years has had a major impact on water supplies, particularly in the Aegean Region and the Küçük Menderes Basin in western Turkey. The most current solution to this problem is the implementation of sustainable water management practices in a way that complements each other. For this reason, the main purpose of the project proposed to the TUBITAK 2519 Program by the COST CA 17133 Circular City Action is to offer new methods based on nature-based solutions and circularity to prevent water loss after sectoral uses in the K. Menderes River Basin. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) studies were conducted before recommending these methods.
Short bio:
Dr. H. Volkan Oral received his PhD from Boğaziçi University Institute of Environmental Sciences in 2010. He then enrolled in Israel Ben Gurion University for post-doctoral studies. He spent some time working at Polat Enerji as the Carbon Certificates Supervisor after returning to Turkey. At the end of 2015, Dr. Oral started working full-time at Istanbul Aydin University's Department of Civil Engineering. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2024. Disaster management, circularity, nature-based solutions, and environmental sustainability applications are among Dr. Oral's scientific interests.
