We cordially invite you to our seminar “Modelling Water Dynamics and Nitrogen Fate in Agri-Eco-Environmental Systems” to be held by Shah Jahan Leghari, from Northwest A&F University,

When: 12 October, 2026, Monday, 13:30-15:00

Where: Online at https://bulive.bogazici.edu.tr/b/pin-ymn-dln-sh0

Abstract:

Water scarcity and nitrogen pollution are among the most pressing agricultural and environmental challenges worldwide. This seminar presents an integrated modelling approach to understand water dynamics and nitrogen fate across agri-eco-environmental systems. Drawing on field experiments and process-based models such as WHCNS (Water-Heat-Carbon-Nitrogen), validated in diverse agro-ecological zones of China and Pakistan. I will demonstrate how water and nitrogen fluxes can be simulated to reduce NO3- leaching, N2O emissions, NH3 volatilization, improve water-saving, and enhance ecosystem resilience under climate variability. The talk will also highlight ‘’what should we do for water security’’, development of a rapid, low-cost water drainage and nitrate leaching measurement model for field application and strategies for scaling innovations from local to regional levels.
